8. One is the loneliest number

The surest way to lose weight is to eat less. So, if your Weight Watchers plan says you have 32 points, you try not to even break 30. Some days you might even try to stay within 20 to 24 points, just to be safe.

But then you also need to exercise. Try getting up early every day to hit the treadmill for at least an hour. You’re out of shape, so you won’t be able to run, but you can walk fast, say, 3.5 to 4.0 speed. And for a bit more work, increase your incline to about 4.0%.

Mornings aren’t enough though; you also need to work out in the evening. Here you can take turns alternating between yoga, weight training and pilates. And to speed things up a bit, why not take on the one hundred pushup challenge? This way you’ll be doing more pushups in twenty minutes than you’ve done in twenty years.

Try keeping this up for a week, and if you stick to it I guarantee after only 212 (out of 224) Weight Watchers points, 5 hours of treadmill, 177 pushups, 1 ½ hours of pilates, 1 hour of yoga, and 30 minutes of weight training…you’ll lose one, yes, you heard right, ONE pound.

I really just don’t understand why people aren’t raving about this surefire method.

Today’s numbers:

WW Points:  26.5 (of 31)

Treadmill: 60 mins (4.0% incline, 4.0 speed, 471.7 calories, 3.89 miles)

  1. Ha. This is hilarious! And so true. The problem with weight loss is that it seems sooooooooooo slooooooowwwwww when you are doing it…

    • I know, it makes me want to eat and drink nothing but water and apples for a week.

  2. I feel your pain, Sergio. The even sadder thing is that it comes off slowly but comes back quicker than you can say “hand me that cupcake.” Congrats to you for sticking to it.

    • Thanks, Renee, I’m trying. I’m encouraged thinking that I already managed to do this a year ago. But it’s hard to remember how long it took me then.

  3. Just keep in mind when loosing weight, how long it took you to put the weight on! My advise is to look at weight lose in terms of months not weeks. Hang in there, your metabolism will start changing and it will all be worth it.

    • Thanks for the reality check. I guess I keep thinking, I’m spending more time exercising than eating, but the results aren’t matching up to that 🙂

  4. Ack—the one-pound week. It suuuuuucks. Almost as much as not losing any. I followed the Slim4Life program to lose weight a few years back. It’s rapid-fire—3-5 pounds a week—but COMPLETELY unsustainable. And it pretty much ruins you for any plan that calls for modest losses.

Peggy has finally convinced me that if I’m working out, not eating is not an option. It might be worth asking your WW leader if a 20-24 point day is a good idea when you’re working out an hour+. Your body might think you’re trying to starve it and hang on tight to the fat.

    Blah, blah, blah.

    • Take heart. You’re an amazing writer and creative thinker. Who cares about being skinny! The weight loss is bound to kick in any day!

      • Thanks, Judy! I definitely don’t care about being skinny. Okay, just a little. But not in an unhealthy way, really.
